This album proved that McLachlan still had not lost her stride. It debuted at No. It was her first album issued through Verve Records and following its release she embarked on a tour spanning across 30 cities. I went with my sister to see Sarah McLachlan in concert a while ago. Even though it was a 6 hour drive to get there and I had to stay overnight, it was totally worth it. I love Sarah McLachlan, for both her music and also for her ideas and her charity work. So going to the concert was not just a fun and beautiful musical experience but very powerful and meaningful to me.
Her voice has a clarity and purity that just can't come across on a record, and her stage presence is completely inspiring. Something also must be said for the band and the background singers, especially, they harmonized with Sarah McLachlan so perfectly and it sounded incredibly complex and layered. The stage was set up to highlight Sarah without being obnoxious with the effects. The whole show was soothing in a way, but exciting at the same time. The venue was pretty well packed and parking was kind of a pain to find but during the concert I forgot all about that. I left the concert feeling very much elated and wonderful and I simply can't wait until I'm able to see her again, since I've heard she's touring again this year.
Read more. Report as inappropriate. I was mesmerized by your strong voice, so good lyrics and hit songs, one after the other. The small venue and orchestra 1 guitar, 1 bass, 1 drums and one keyboard player made this the best night I could imagine to listen to Adia, I will remember you, building a mystery, angel, when she loved me, ice cream, song for my father and many more.
Her voice was so strong and powerfull. I will go back to see her again when she is in town.
That is how good the show was. I would recommend that show to any of her fan and new ones that wants to listen to powerfull lyrics about life, death, relationships and break-ups. I am not a softy but some songs brought tears in my eyes Raise my hat to the song writer, the performer and the professional singer that Sarah McLachlan is. Sarah McLachlan was just amazing! It was the best concert I have ever been to in my life! She is such a sweet soul and very humble! I got to meet her and I am just speechless. It was definatly one of the best moments of my life. She was so captivating during her performances.
Her voice is just soothing and you could feel her emotions through her songs. I cant wait to see her again and I will definitely do meet and greet again as well! I will never forget those couple minutes i had with her! From the very first song, with just Sarah on the piano, her voice cut right through. The basic back line of musicians also meant that her voice was not at any point drowned out by the music. Every note was perfect, and her contagious charisma made you feel like you were just hanging out in her very large lounge room.
Really awesome, heartfelt concert. Sarah is the ultimate artist, So professional; a superb vocalist and an accomplished musician. Sarah has that magic that delivers a Superstar experience. Her lyrics are rooted in her most compelling life experiences so common to us all and enabling most to make that so important connection to her music, Adele may have repeated the success story but Sarah did it first and better.
Sarah McLachlan was amazing. She was very connected to the audience and even had a social media contest where some fans were able to sit on a couch on stage!

She took photos with them and chit chatted with them. Also, she made it clear that she would play older songs as well as songs off her new CD. It was a great mix. The sound was amazing, she is one talented classy lady! We have loved this artist for over 20 years. This concert was as good as the others we have attended.
In fact her voice may be getting even better. She did a mix of old and new songs. I look forward to her next trip to Florida as we will surely make it a point to see her again. One of the best female performers of the last 30 years. This was my first time hearing her live and she sounds just as good as her recordings if not better.
She played a lot of my old favorites and her new songs are gorgeous. This was a 2 hour plus show!!! The hallucinatory imagery was meanwhile inspired by a late night drive through LA, the streets empty, an eerie hush holding sway. A strut of swaggering confidence captured in musical form — and a celebration of going back to your roots and reconnecting with the people who matter.
Included on her album Wild is the Wind, Simone depicts four characters — Aunt Sarah, Saffronia, Sweet Thing and Peaches — who represent different parts of the lasting legacy of slavery. One of the best songs written about the illusory intimacy fostered the internet. St Vincent — aka Texas songwriter Annie Clark — was singing about how social media fed our narcissism and gave us a fake sense of our place in the world. He sings — with a gently swaying, almost resigned delivery — surrealist lyrics that likens a past relationship to a brief high, from the perspective of the comedown that follows.
Piano-man Wainwright can be too ornate for his own good, but he lands his blows here in this soul-baring recounting of a violent disagreement with his father. Loudon III, a cult folkie in his own right, walked out on the family when Rufus was a child and the simmering resentments had lingered on.
They boiled over at a joint Rolling Stone photoshoot during which Rufus had joked that his dad needed him to get into Rolling Stone and his father had not taken the insult lying down. The dispute is here restaged by Wainwright the younger as a raging row at the dinner table. He references Ecclesiastes but also Elvis Presley, and offers up the grim perspective of a man whose views do not fit in with the world around him.

The first and last word in breakup ballads. The lyrics are supremely economical — just the chorus repeated over and over, really. But these are nonetheless amongst the most hypnotic lines in pop. Adding poignancy is the rumour that the Roses wrote it as an apology to early fans reportedly aghast that the group had signed a big fat record deal.
Nas addresses both himself and his future progeny on one of the best tracks from his faultless debut Illmatic. There are hundreds of great songs about epic, romantic love, and there are hundreds of other Beatles songs that could have made this list. This gave him an idea for the hook and he never looked back. The 40 greatest song lyrics Show all All Apologies — a mea culpa howled from the precipice — was directed to his wife, Courtney Love, and their baby daughter, Frances Bean.
His marriage was falling apart when he wrote the lyrics and he would take his own life shortly afterwards. Coming out of his experiences as a too-cool-for school DJ in New York, the song functions perfectly well as a satire of Nathan Barley-type trendies. Has a break-up dirge ever stung so bitterly as when the Libertines duo counted the ways in which each had betrayed the other? Father Lucifer was further inspired by visions she had received whilst taking peyote with a South American shaman. But the Satanic majesty also flows from the lyrics — which spoke to the pandemonium of the era and the sense that civilisation could come crashing in at any moment.
The gordian mystery of Bewlay Brothers? The meta horror movie of Ashes to Ashes? The uncanny last will and testament that was the entirety of Blackstar — a ticking clock of a record that shape-shifted into something else entirely when Bowie passed away three days after its release? But it was also a break-up record mourning the end of his marriage of 11 months to Carrie Fisher.
